I eat out a lot. However, this choice is easy. I had my best meal of the year during my high point of the year in New Orleans. Ironically, during my high point weekend, I had a bit of an emotional meltdown during one point. Frustrated with stewing in my funk, I dressed up and took myself to dinner at The Grill Room, located in the Windsor Court Hotel.
Wow! This Four Star/Four Diamond restaurant exceeded my expectations. From the moment I was greeted until I paid the (significant) check, the entire staff took every opportunity to make me feel comfortable and take care of all my needs.
By the end of the evening, I had about four regular courses plus, a wonderful amuse-bouche, two complimentary tastes from the chef, and dessert (I rarely order dessert). Each dish was more delicious than the last. I polished everything off with some signature cocktails while listening to their talented jazz band.
The entire experience was elegant yet, not stuffy. Proof that newer restaurants can hit high notes with inventive dishes, but when it comes to customer service, they need to pay attention to the masters. Bonus: By the time I got back to my hotel, the blues were gone.
